On July 29th, 2025, we hosted a webinar to reflect on the past five years of building infrastructure and support for translational research focused on medications for opioid use disorder and the implementation of recovery support services in Central Appalachia. We appreciate each one of you, and we are proud of the work we have done together. Click here to view a summary of the webinar. |

MOUD Clinics Request Support Here!
We currently have 41 Clinic members in our MOUD Research Exchange. During the summer webinar breakout session, members discussed challenges treating patients with a dual need for pain management and MOUD and state-level policy differences, specifically how these policies impact Sublocade access. The STARS study team will be working to create an MOUD clinic-tailored White Paper to explore policy differences across the 6 Central Appalachian states. We may be reaching out to some of you for assistance in drafting this report.
We will also host a Spring 2026 workshop focused on treating patients with pain who are also receiving treatment with MOUD.

STARS Research Manuscripts and Reports In Development |
The STARS study team is preparing two manuscripts for publication as a result of your partnership and engagement. The first, titled "
Job Satisfaction, Stress, and Workplace Supportiveness Among Certified Peer Support Specialists in Central Appalachia," will summarize results from three subscales disseminated on the CAPP Peer Data Registry. The second study, focused on peer recovery support service implementation in MOUD clinic settings, will include both a stakeholder report (slated for release in early 2026) and at least one peer-reviewed manuscript summarizing results from a survey of clinic administrators. Peer-reviewed publications will be submitted in the Spring of 2026.

New Research: Youth Opioid Recovery Support Intervention (YORS)
“The Youth Opioid Recovery Support (YORS) intervention is a multicomponent, behavioral treatment that seeks to increase MOUD and other treatment retention, borrowing from previously established, evidence-based interventions into a novel package designed for young adults with OUD with a special emphasis on medication adherence. The components of YORS include assertive outreach; leveraging the influence of family or other treatment significant others (TSOs); providing low-barrier access to extended-release (XR) MOUD, with a choice of either XR-Naltrexone (NTX) or XR-Buprenorphine (BUP); and incentivizing medication adherence through contingency management."
